Valka Haddock is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Stoick the Vast) of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. She is the wife (later widow) of Stoick the Vast, the mother of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the aunt of Snotlout Jorgenson, and the grandmother of Zephyr and Nuffink.
She is voiced by Cate Blanchett.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Before her son Hiccup met Toothless, she was the only human who desired to establish peace between humans and dragons rather than slaying them. As she tried to stop the people of Berk from killing dragons during her time there.
- During the 20 years she spent away from Berk, she had been relentlessly rescuing and protecting countless dragons from Drago and his Trappers. An action she later took part in once again during the climax of How to Train Your Dragon 2 with the help of her son, Hiccup. This easily makes her one of the franchise's most admirable characters.
- While she did abandon Hiccup and Stoick, this wasn't out of selfishness or malice, but rather because she believed that the two of them would've been better off without her. And she immediately and sincerely apologized to her son once she realized the error of her ways.
- Not only is she one of the most compassionate and selfless characters in the franchise, but she is one of the few that lacks any sort of real corrupting qualities whatsoever. And any she initially had were completely subverted by the end of the second movie.
