The Traveler is the overarching protagonist of the Just Add Magic franchise. She's the guardian of the Cookbook, who's has been around since the creation of the book, which is at least since the Middle Ages.
She was portrayed by the late Mira Furlan.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- She's one of the most influential characters in the franchise, as she's been around since the magic cookbook was first created -- making her thousands of years old -- and was heavily implied to be involved with book's creation, even if she was never confirmed to be its author.
- She's also responsible for whenever the magic book selects a duo or trio of preteens/teens to become its owners, even personally giving the cookbook to some of the groups.
- While she may be a protector herself, she "cannot wield its power", thus preventing her from being too involved with the cooking. However, she'll still occasionally pop-up to mentor the protectors every once in a while. This means she has a minor role in aiding countless generations of protectors in solving mysteries, and protecting their towns from threats.
- It should also be noted that most of the protectors' admirability is limited to their towns/cities, whereas The Traveler's aided protectors all over the globe, which supports her being one of -- if not the -- most influential hero in the franchise.
- She's incredibly wise, and has more knowledge and experience with the Cookbook and its powerful magic than any of the other protectors. Unfortunately, her warnings about the book's power tend to be ignored.
- She's also extremely powerful and has a couple of noteworthy noble actions to her name. While numerous other characters manage to achieve more heroics than her, she still stands out for power and influence. Such as helping Kelly Quinn by providing a spell meant to break her grandmother Becky's curse, sacrificing her body to give Chuck temporary amnesia, and using her remaining strength and power to aid the protectors with Chuck, warn them about Rose Peizer and hold Hannah off from eating from the mulberry tree, trying to save Hannah from being imprisoned. It's heavily implied she perished shortly afterwards, considering she never appeared in Seasons 2B or 3, or in Mystery City.
- She also made sure that all sets of protectors after the Peizer siblings were trios rather than duos, to ensure that an incident that Charles' wouldn't happen again.
