Being a hero means fighting back even when it seems impossible.

~ Ford's final message at the end of Journal 3.

Dr. Stanford Filbrick Pines, Ph.D. is a major character in Disney's Gravity Falls franchise.

He's Stanley Pines' older twin brother and paternal great-uncle of Dipper and Mabel Pines, who was the mysterious Author of three journals about paranormal activity in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Most of his whereabouts were the central plot arc of the show, until he was rescued from the multiverse by Stan.

He was voiced by J.K. Simmons, and very briefly by series creator Alex Hirsch, but only when he trades clothes with his brother.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • He's responsible for almost every event in the show, as his recordings and research on Gravity Falls anomalies are the central driving force of series, with Dipper spending the majority of the series trying to uncover all of the mysteries surrounding the Author.
  • He's extremely intelligent from even the young, being able to get his science degree 3 years earlier and build a perpetual motion machine as his school project. During his time in multiverse, he was able to stay hidden from Bill Cipher and learned even more about paranormal, this would also put him above most of the heroes in power level.
  • He's one of the most admirable characters in the series, as he directly defeated Bill Cipher and saved the entire multiverse from annihilation, with him also avoiding being captured by Bill and keeping him from escaping into the real world for several decades. While he committed some serious crimes in the multiverse and can be an arrogant egotist, neither of these corrupting factors get too much in the way of his heroism. Even after being put under torture by Bill, Stanford resisted hours of pain and refused to cooperate with him.
  • Although there exists Axolotl who is a far more powerful deity and seems to be a good guy, their admirable feats are never explored much, thus allowing Stanford to stand out. His admirable feats also outclass that of Time Baby despite his higher resources.

Trivia[]

  • Ironically enough, Bill Cipher, the Ultimate Evil of Gravity Falls happened to have the closest ties to Stanford, making it rather fitting that he qualifies for the status.
