Solid Snake, born as David, is the main protagonist of the Metal Gear series.
He is a former special operations soldier and mercenary who has been involved in numerous missions to stop various threats to world peace, often involving the use of stealth tactics. Snake is known for his iconic appearance, including his bandana, eye patch, and rugged demeanor. He is a highly skilled soldier, proficient in various forms of combat and espionage. Throughout the series, Snake is portrayed as a complex and morally conflicted character, grappling with the consequences of his actions and the nature of war.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He's the most admirable character of the series and the big good of it, as he saved the world multiple times and defeated various dangerous enemies.
- In MGS, he infiltrates the facility, defeats the members of FOXHOUND, and destroys Metal Gear REX, preventing the nuclear launch and exposing the broader conspiracies involving the Patriots and their genetic experimentations.
- In MGS4, he undertakes the mission to stop Liquid Ocelot. He infiltrates multiple fortified locations, disables the SOP system, and ultimately defeats Liquid Ocelot. His actions dismantle the Patriots' control and prevent a new era of war and oppression as well.
- Takes down The Patriots for good who were responsible for many deaths over many years.
- All in all. His bravery, determination, and moral clarity inspire those who fight alongside him. Characters like Otacon (Hal Emmerich), Meryl Silverburgh, and Raiden are deeply affected by his example. Otacon transitions from a guilt-ridden scientist to a dedicated ally, co-founding the anti-Metal Gear organization Philanthropy with Snake. Meryl becomes a stronger and more determined soldier, motivated by Snake's leadership. Raiden, initially unsure of his path, finds purpose and strength through Snake's guidance.
- His persistence and effectiveness as a soldier and spy challenge the series' villains, often leading to deep changes in their plans and perceptions. His confrontations with Big Boss, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake force these characters to rethink their ambitions.
- He doesn't fear death or defeat, as he battles Big Boss in MGS despite knowing the latter can kill him as he's more experienced with firearms and hand-to-hand combat. In MGS4, he battles Liquid Snake, although Liquid Snake has a noticeably higher physique as he has multiple robotic instalments in his body, Solid Snake, despite his old age, confronts him face-to-face and manages to defeat him.
- Snake is also a genius among geniuses, possessing an exceptionally high IQ score of 180. This means that he is very perceptive, crafting and cunning to a degree that rivals even the mastermind of the series, Ocelot.
- He is overall humble and accepts the reality as it is. Big Boss always wanted to change the world for the best. In the epilogue of MGS4, BigBoss finally realizes he made a mess that his son was trying to fix. Despite the initial contempt Big Boss had towards his clones, he realized Solid Snake was truly a good person, devoting his life to fixing his father's mistakes, without asking for anything in return.
- While he is a lethal extremist who does questionable stuff, this doesn't hinder his admirability as his alignment is good at all times.
