Shirou Emiya is the main protagonist of the popular visual novel and anime series Fate/stay night, and the tritagonist of its visual novel sequel Fate/hollow ataraxia. He is a young teenager who is raised by his caretaker Taiga Fujimura and desires to be a hero of justice and peace. One day, he stumbles into a battle between Servants, where he accidentally summons Saber and becomes her Master, engaging in the Fifth Holy Grail War, where he becomes an unorthodox mage who has a specialized version of Projection magecraft. His heroism comes into conflict with many villains like Gilgamesh, Zouken Matou, and Kirei Kotomine.
He is voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama in the Japanese version of the anime and in the English Dub of the 2006 anime and Unlimited Blade Work movie, he is voiced by Sam Riegel. In the Unlimited Blade Work anime and Heaven’s Feel movies, he is voiced by Bryce Papenbrook.

- He is undoubtedly the most admirable hero in the entire series, saving numerous lives and humanity from being destroyed and killed off, and defeated numerous heinous villains like Kirei Kotomine and Gilgamesh, the Ultimate Evil of Fate/stay night. The most admirable feat he has done is helping bring Sakura Matou from becoming Dark Sakura and defeating her monstrous grandfather Zouken Matou, who wanted to use her as a vessel for Angra Mainyu, so he could become immortal and as well as her abusive brother Shinji, from ever raping and abusing her as well.
- He is the most noble and brave hero in the anime and visual novel series, as he has little-to-no corrupting qualities, is kind and respectful to others, and manages to bring out the best in people and win others respect and calls others out on their cruel actions. Saber, Rin Tohsaka, and Sakura Matou start to change for the better and all fall in love with him because of his kindness and selflessness. He also is willing to help others and get over his own fears to help them out.
- He is one of the most influential characters in Fate/stay night, as he’s the most prominent protagonist in stopping many dangerous threats, including Zouken Matou, who is responsible for kickstarting the events of the entire series and as well being one of the evillest Masters ever. He also manages to bring out the best in people like Sakura Matou and Saber and has gained many allies. He also managed to help stop Dark Sakura by helping redeem herself and turn her back into Sakura Matou.
- He is one of the most powerful characters in the series, as his Projection magecraft allows him to have Reinforcement, which helps him analyze the structural composition of an object and increase its effectiveness. He is later able to gain a high level of Tracing, which allows him to reproduce weapons like swords and spears and is able to heal quickly due to having the Avalon planted into him and as well as other powers and abilities.
- Despite his Martyr complex, he is ultimately presented as the paragon of the series, as he fights for justice and peace and sticks to those ideals. He also manages to remind others of the joys of life and brings them back into the side of good, making them his allies, showing how his kindness and selflessness inspires others to follow his lead.
