Sans is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside his brother Papyrus) in the hit indie game Undertale.

He is a sentient skeleton who is generally known for his lazy attitude and his carefree lifestyle. Despite his bravado however, Sans has shown to have a darker side to him, as seen by his fight in the genocide route, he is actually aware of the resets as well as the fact that there are multiple timelines, which is the reason why he became so nihilistic about everything as he knows that no matter what happens, it will all likely just end up being reset anyway, being one of the very few characters that is actually aware of this happening. Despite his nihilism, Sans still remains one of the most noble heroes in the game, just like his brother which has earnt him the rank of being one of two Ultimate Goods from the game.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • While seemingly weak, Sans proves himself to be one of the strongest and most capable monsters in the genocide route, where he is not only able to send dozens of difficult attacks the player's way, but is also the only monster in the game who is able to dodge attacks. He's also the only character in the game that uses Karmic Retribution in his attacks, an effect that does damage against the player depending on how high their Level Of ViolencE is, which in the Genocide Route where the players LOVE is as high as it can possibly be, makes his attacks very deadly.
  • He is incredibly intelligent, more so than even that of Alphys, as not only does he have full multiversal awareness but he is also able to deduce what happened in previous timelines despite only remembering bits and pieces of it. He is also one of the very few characters that is aware of the turn based combat the game uses, opting to just simply have his turn forever at one point until the player eventually gets bored and resets the game when he doesn't have anymore attacks to use against the player.
  • Due to being one of the very few characters in Undertale who is aware of resets and the player's power to do so, with his motive being to save the timeline, that gives him one of the biggest protection levels of any character in the game. He's also one of the most admirable due to defeating Flowey in other timelines repeatedly, trying to make sure the player doesn't kill anyone and remains a good person, trying to get the player to bring back everyone they killed by forcing them to reset and attempting to save the whole timeline from the player and Chara, the only character being able to rival him in admirability being Asriel Dreemurr.
  • Behind his brother Papyrus, he is the most noble monster in the game, with him wanting the player to go down a path of mercy as opposed to killing, and while he does willingly watch his fellow monsters die to the genocidal human, this is because he is aware of resets, with him trying to get the player to quit in order to reset and bring back all the monsters. He lacks any serious corrupting qualities that everyone else except his brother Papyrus has and regardless of the route chosen, remains a morally righteous hero who never does anything seriously harmful.
  • He has relatively high influence within the game as a whole, not only giving the player a call at the end of the Neutral Route, but is also there to assist the player and guide them during the Pacifist Route and is there to stop them during the Genocide Route as the final boss of that route.
