Pochita is the titular overarching protagonist of Chainsaw Man, being considered the "Hero of Hell" who helps any devil in need, and is also a destroyer of devils.
Like all devils, he embodies a particular fear, which in his case is the fear of chainsaws. He has killed multiple devils throughout the world such as the AIDS devil, Nazi Devil, World War II Devil, and many more psychologically-based devils. He makes a contract with the main protagonist, Denji, before the show starts due to Denji showing affection to him in spite of his immense power and danger he posed to others. After the defeat of Makima in Part 1, the two of them continue as a devil hunter, protecting Japan from multiple threats.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is the most admirable character in the show, defeating and erasing multiple devils' existence throughout history and saving the world numerous times.
- While he is very lethal, this is unintentional as it is mainly due to his inability to control his power when fighting.
- His erasure of devils is not intentional but rather an effect of his power, and he mainly desires to help anyone in need.
- He is honorable and noble as he will help any devil in need, only requesting a hug in return, simply wanting affection in spite of his immense power.
- This shows that while he does not appear to feel remorse for collateral damage he causes, he is somewhat sympathetic in that he is unable to feel physical affection from others due to his immense power.
- He respects the wishes of Denji in Part 2, going on a date with Asa and eating a hamburger at his behest, and will save Denji whenever his life is threatened.
- He shields Kobeni from Makima's fatal attack and even assisted Makima when she called for help while fighting Denji, triggering his "kill devil" mental mechanism.
- His desire to feel physical affection may actually be another reason why he decided to form a contract with Denji, as they both desire companionship and genuine physical affection from others.
- Makima calls him a true hero as a form of respect due to his selfless nature.
- He has more influence out of any other hero, as he has a huge reputation for protecting Japan and all of Earth due to having killed numerous devils.
- He is the only one Makima shows any interest in, being a fan of his, and even views death at the hands of him as an honor due to the fact he will only kill those who pose as a genuine threat to the world.
- He is the source of Denji's power, and while Denji does make the choice to protect others as well, he definitely takes over more often than not whenever others call for help.
- He is one of the most powerful devils in the story as anyone killed by him will be erased from existence.
