“ | Lord Shen: How did you find peace? I took away your parents, everything. I-I scarred you for life. Po: See that's the thing Shen, scars heal. |

Po Ping (born Lotus Shan) is the titular main protagonist of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is a giant panda who, after busting into the Jade Palace, would be chosen by Oogway as the Dragon Warrior due to Oogway believing that the universe was sending him a sign that Po was the true Dragon Warrior after Po happened to fall in front of him when he was supposed to pick the Dragon Warrior. By the end of the third entry, he was then crowned as Oogway's official successor after defeating Tai Lung, saving China from Lord Shen and saving his group of pandas from Kai the Collector and after mastering Chi, became the new mentor and surpassed even Shifu in skill, mentoring a new age of Kung Fu warriors himself after Shifu eventually retires from his job.
He is voiced by Jack Black, who also plays Steve from A Minecraft Movie.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is the series most admirable and noble character, saving the Valley of Peace three times from Tai Lung, Kai the Collector and Ke-Pa, saving China three times from Lord Shen, Pang Bing and the White Bone Demon, saving the South Kingdom from Zuma, saving large amounts of the world from Jindiao and finally, saving the entire planet from being slaughtered twice by Ke-Pa and the Yaoguai twins. He also gives the villains a chance to redeem themselves, only fighting them when they have proven to be irredeemable, or reject his mercy and was willing to sacrifice his life twice in the series to save others, once with Kai and the second time with Jindiao. He lacks any corrupting factors and never had any even from the beginning of the series, making him one of the few characters that started as a Pure Good hero and remained as one for the entirety of the series.
- After the passing of Oogway, Po takes over as the series most influential protagonist by becoming the Dragon Warrior and often being the only one capable of stopping the villains plans, and being the one responsible for the events of the second film and playing a large role in the events of the third film due to Lord Shen's motive being entirely about killing Po due to his past with him and Oogway sending a message to Po's father, Li Shan that involved Po mastering chi so that he would be able to kill Kai the Collector and prevent the pandas from becoming victims of genocide. He's also responsible for Shifu finally being free of his past demons with Tai Lung and being able to find inner peace, becoming a better person and a better mentor in the process before Po ultimately surpassed him in skill and became the mentor himself.
- After he inherits the Hero's Chi, he became one of the strongest characters in the series, being able to take on even powerful characters like Kai the Collector, Ke-Pa's demon army and Ke-Pa himself with ease. Even without the Hero's Chi, he was still durable enough to take several powerful strikes from Kung Fu masters like Tai Lung and come out unscathed, and he was also capable of taking a blast from Lord Shen's firework cannons that were strong enough to kill Master Thundering Rhino in one strike.
- Despite being rather goofy and childish at times, Po demonstrates surprising feats of high intelligence and wisdom, examples being when he tried to convince Tai Lung and Lord Shen that they were going down the wrong path in their lives, with Tai Lung's case being that the Dragon Scroll provided no power to whoever read it and it was just simply believing in your own ability that mattered and in Shen's case, it was that the past didn't matter anymore and what he chose to be in the present was what truly mattered, but they both rejected his wisdom and it lead to their defeats in the process.
- He has incredible willpower, as he never gave up on believing he could be the Dragon Warrior despite Shifu and the rest of the Furious Five's blatant attempts to drive him away and make him give up on being the Dragon Warrior, managed to overcome his past trauma and take on Shen despite being completely alone at first and even when it seemed like all hope was lost for him and the other pandas, he decided to sacrifice himself by skadooshing himself with Kai the Collector in order to banish Kai back to the spirit realm to save his group of pandas and the main cast rather then giving up.
- Ever since he saved China in the second film, he and the Furious Five have been seen as symbols of hope for China and its inhabitants believe that no matter how dangerous the threat, they will always be able to defeat them and save everyone in the end. Him being The Dragon Warrior means that he also embodies the concepts of peace and justice, as the Dragon Warrior was stated to be the one that would save the Valley of Peace and become Oogway's successor as the protector of China after Oogway only had a few days left by the time the prophecy was created.
