Naturally, I'm very interested to know how you're able to commit these murders without being present, but I don't mind waiting a little bit longer. You can answer all of my questions when I catch you. Let's meet again soon... Kira.
~ L Lawliet, tricking Kira/Light Yagami into exposing himself to the world.
I am L.
~ L Lawliet introduces himself to the remaining Japanese Task Force members.

L Lawliet, also known as L or Ryuzaki, is the main antagonist of the Anime/Manga series Death Note.

He is a detective that had solved many difficult criminal cases and is the arch-nemesis of Kira, also known as Light Yagami. Upon finding out that criminals are getting killed in an unknown matter, L suspects that a person using supernatural matters is killing them. L exposes Kira by using Lind L. Tailor as a decoy version of himself to die. With Kira exposed, L investigates him while the latter does everything to prevent himself from getting caught.

He is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Alessandro Juliani in the English version.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • L is easily the most powerful character in the series, as well as being the smartest character in the series and having power over law enforcement all across the globe and is rich enough to build entire buildings to use as bases.
  • Although L is picky about which cases to solve, he had prevented World War 3, solved the BB murder case, solved some of the toughest cases in the world and is the ultimate reason Kira was defeated, making him the most admirable character in the series.
  • He is the most influential hero in the series, due to him being the main rival to Kira and figuring out his existence, leading to the Kira Task force being formed, which would continue even after he was killed. And after his death his influence is felt through his successors Near and Mello who he would have be a thorn in Kira's side and ultimately bring him to justice even after his death.
  • Despite being a anti-hero who uses extreme methods, this does not entail him being evil or morally ambiguous. He still always tries to reduce the amount of death as much as possible even when he kills people (such as using a death-row prisoner as bait). Furthermore, despite being mostly motivated by a desire to "win" cases, he still has a sense of justice meaning he isn't completely selfish.
