Jotaro "JoJo" Kujo is the titular main protagonist of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.
Originally a Japanese delinquent, Jotaro is a member of the Joestar family and the third Joestar to carry the "JoJo" moniker. He would famously embark on a journey to save his dying mother and kill the Joestar family's archenemy, DIO. Afterwards, Jotaro would become a marine biologist and frequently make reappearances in the series, serving as a mentor to other Joestars such as Josuke Higashikata. Jotaro wields the stand known as Star Platinum, a stand similar to that of DIO's The World which allows him to stop time. He's also the son of Holy Kujo, the grandson of Joseph Joestar, the father of Jolyne Cujoh, and a descendant of Jonathan Joestar.
He was voiced by Kiyoyuki Yanada in the 1993 CD drama adaptation of Stardust Crusaders and Heritage for the Future, Jurota Kosugi in the OVA, Tetsu Inada in the Golden Wind video game adaptation, and Daisuke Ono in the anime and all other appearances. In English, he is voiced by Abie Hadjitarkhani in the OVA and Matthew Mercer in the anime. In the 2017 live action adaption of Diamond is Unbreakable, he was portrayed by Yusuke Iseya.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is one of the most admirable characters in the entire series as his actions influence multiple Parts in some shape or form unlike the other JoJos. To give some examples, Jotaro joins the Joestar Group becoming instrumental in the defeat of Dio Brando even destroying his diary, travels around the world with Jean-Pierre Polnareff to find the Stand Arrows and Diavolo, helps Josuke Higashikata learn his true heritage and save Morioh from Yoshikage Kira, sends Koichi Hirose back to ensure that Giorno Giovanna is safe upon learning his true nature, and sacrifices himself to save Jolyne Cujoh and his friends to stop Enrico Pucci, ensuring that the Joestars live on in the post-Made in Heaven reset universe (including himself).
- Jotaro has a sense of justice and will help others in their time of need against dangerous villains. Indeed, his start into heroism was because he wanted to save his mother despite their initially strained relationship and willingly joined the Joestar Group to fulfill this goal.
- He is the user of Star Platinum, one of the most powerful Stands in the series surpassing Dio's The World and is described as the strongest or most invincible Stand by several characters in Parts 4 and 6 due to its immense strength, speed, precision, senses, sight, durability, and lung capacity.
- Despite being an anti-hero with wrathful, jerkish and lethal tendencies, this doesn't get too much in the way of Jotaro's heroism as it remains mostly consistent throughout the series whether its helping his friends and allies or family members like Josuke and Jolyne.
