Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is the main protagonist of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise and the posthumous overarching protagonist of Dreamworks Dragons: the Nine Realms. He is the husband of Astrid Hofferson, the father of Nuffink and Zephyr Haddock, and the ancestor of Tom Kullersen.
Though initially wanting to be a Viking who slayed dragons, Hiccup came to realize that dragons were not the dangerous creatures they had been made out to be after sparing a Night Fury and bonding with the dragon. From then on, Hiccup has sought to have humans coexist with dragons.
He is voiced by Jay Baruchel.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is the most pacifistic character in the franchise and the one who tries to resort to attempting to establish peace between him and his enemies before anything else the most often. As this was how he initially tried to stop Drago Bludvist (albeit unsuccessfully) and reached out to befriend the Light Fury even after she had treated him harshly.
- He's very forgiving of others. As he was able to trust Heather once again rather quickly even after she had betrayed him and forgave his mother Valka after she had left for 20 years.
- His actions have the most influence on the franchise and the largest amount of characters in it, namely him killing the Red Death and ending her reign of terror (as well as saving all of the Vikings she was about to kill along with Toothless from her) and allowing humans and dragons to coexist in the first place (an event which kicks-off almost every event later in the franchise).
- Whenever he does kill or cause harm to someone, it is never out of malice or because of a genuine desire to take someone's life. For example, while he was technically responsible for killing Grimmel the Grisly, he only did it for the sake of being able to save the Light Fury from him. Not to mention how by doing so, Hiccup had ended up avenging all of the Night Furies previously slain by Grimmel in the past.
