Emma is the main protagonist of The Promised Neverland franchise. She was an 11-year-old orphan who resided at the Grace Field House. With the assistance of her friends Norman and Ray, she escapes with many of the other orphans after discovering the orphanage's true purpose, and she and her friends embark on a quest to escape from the Demon World.
She is voiced by Sumire Morohoshi in Japanese and Erica Mendez in English.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Emma presents herself to be the most sympathetic and selfless character in the entire series.
- When Connie is being "brought to a foster family" by Isabella, Emma notices that she left her stuffed rabbit behind, and decides to run to bring it towards her, something she really didn't need to do. This ironically results in her and Norman discovering the truth behind their orphanage when they discover Connie's dead body in a carriage.
- Out of the original trio, she is the one to suggest that they should leave along with the other orphans, despite the risks of doing so. Ray rejects this idea, suggesting they leave by themselves, while Norman is on board with it.
- Though she came to hate Peter Ratri and his clan for all of the pain and suffering they caused, she still sympathized with him. When she and her group had the chance to kill Peter, she simply asked him to join her in her envisioned human world. This also makes Peter see the error of his ways, which causes him to commit suicide in the manga, believing that he isn't fit for the world that Emma envisions.
- When she reforges the deal that The One made 1000 years ago, she agrees to give up her memories of her family to him so that the humans can escape and live peacefully in the human world. Additionally, she saw this trade as less of a sacrifice, and more of a settlement for the demands that come with her wish. The One was so pleased by her selflessness that he decided to send her to the residence of a lonely, kindly old man after wiping her memory, where she can form a bond with a new loving family.
- Emma thinks of all of the children in the orphange, and the friends she's made on her quest, as her family, and treats them all as such. Even after she escapes from the orphange, she keeps the photos of the kids that her group left behind to remember them by.
- Emma also proves herself to be the most influential hero in the series, as she was ultimately the one that ended the feud between humans and demons for good.
- To do this, she decides to go to The One to reforge the deal that Julius Ratri had made with him, asking him to free all of the cattle children. Before she actually makes the Promise however, she makes the Demon World realize that drinking Mijinka's blood will permanently prevent them from devolving without having to rely on eating humans.
