Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric are the main protagonists of the the 2003 anime adaptation of Fullnetal Alchemist, based on the manga series of the same name.
They are a pair of brothers who were in an attempt to bring back their mother in an Human Transmutation experiment went awry, causing Al to become a disembodied body of metal armor and Edward losing his left arm and left leg. They sent out on a journey to recover their bodies with the help of the mythical Philosophers Stone and become State Alchemist, joining the military to protect it against threats and ensure stability.
Edward Elric is voiced by Romi Park in the Japanese version and by Vic Mignogna in the English version. Alphonse Elric is voiced by Rie Kugimiya in the Japanese version and by Aaron Dismuke in the English version.
Actions & Characteristics[]
- They are considered one of the most admirable heroes in the franchise, due to them playing a direct role in saving the world and Amestris from other heinous villains such as Dante, from manipulating the conflict in Amestrist to create a Philosophers Stone so she could maintain her immortality, while avenging the deaths of everyone she killed along the way. They also manage to try and redeem their enemies along the way.
- They have a decent amount of influence over the series, due to being the most active characters in the series and setting up many events along the way, plus playing a direct role in defeating Dante and saving all of Amestris. They also manage to win over many allies due to their charisma and anti-nilhilst philosophy.
- They are exceptionally intelligent heroes in the anime series, due to being able to being able to be remarkable martial artists and being able to be a hard foe for many of their enemies to defeat. The also have a great deal of knowledge of Alchemy, which allows them to use it for their own defense with Edward Elric being able to use Alchemy without a Transmutation Circle, getting his license at the age of Twelve. They can also use to it craft weapons and armor against their foes, making them formidable opponents.
- They are some of the most noble heroes in their own work, as they both have empathy for all of those around them and often try to redeem their enemies for feel sympathy for them, such as Edward giving a slight scene of shock when learning that Envy is his half-brother and showed hesitation in killing him, and Alphonse sacrificing his own soul to help save Edward and defeat Dante. While Edward still maintains some corrupting factors despite losing a majority of them, he is still a noble person at heart, as such when he calls Shou Tucker on his cruel action of Transmutating Nina and her dog Alexander into a Chimera to keep his Alchemy license and Alphonse having no corrupting factors, that even his brother posses, knowing how special one life is and easily forgives Hohenheim later on in the storyline.
- Their journey has taught them and the audience about Equivalent Exchange, which means that they would give something up to win something else, having a life lesson that has taught them to value life as it is precious and never give it up, which has caused them to become more considerate towards others. It also tells them that their friends and family are what really matter, which is something that Edward admits to Alphonse as when the latter meets up with him again.
