“ | They are rage, brutal, without mercy. But you. You will be worse. Rip and tear, until it is done. | „ |
~ King Novik to the Doom Slayer in the intro of Doom (2016). |
“ | In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. He chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred, he found no peace, and with boiling blood, he scoured the Umbral Plains, seeking vengeance against the Dark Lords who had wronged him. And those that tasted the bite of his sword named him… the Doom Slayer. | „ |

“ | Davoth: Tell me… have you nothing to say to your creator… before you strike him down? Doom Slayer: No. |

The Doom Slayer, also known as Doomguy, Doom Marine, or The Slayer in the 2016 reboot and Doom Eternal and simply Doom in Quake III, is the titular main protagonist of the video game franchise Doom.
He is a mysterious, yet violent space marine with a sworn hatred of Demons, who regularly wages one-man wars against the forces of Hell. Despite his sadistic tendencies and antisocial behavior, the Doom Slayer's heroic efforts have nonetheless led to him being hailed as the savior of the human race and the bane of Hell itself. Additionally, he is a creation of his archenemy, Davoth, and is implied to be the descendant of B.J. Blazkowicz and Commander Keen.
In Doom: Eternal, he was voiced by Matthew Watterson pre-transformation. In The Ancient Gods - Part Two, he was voiced by Jason Kelley post-transformation. In the Japanese dub, he is voiced by Keisuke Ueda.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is without a doubt the most powerful character in the entire series behind only his archnemesis and alternate universe counterpart Davoth. This is because he possesses a wide range of abilities from super strength and speed to advanced firearms training, swordsmanship, and immortality, making him a formidable and strong fighter on the battlefield.
- He is the most admirable and defensive character as his war against the Demons of Hell and the treasonous Maykrs gave humanity and the entire multiverse a chance of survival when the demonic invasion reached them. Finally, his decision to kill Davoth meant every Demon outside of Hell was destroyed, ensuring humanity as well as the universe would be saved until he is needed again.
- While not the first individual to go up against the forces of Hell as evidenced by the existence of King Novik and the Night Sentinels, he is nonetheless the one who made the most impact in putting an end to any and all demonic invasions of Earth and other places in the multiverse such as the Night Sentinel homeworld of Argent D'Nur. In fact, it was he who was responsible for saving Argent D'Nur by killing the demonic invaders and the Old Ones from the Cosmic Realm (including Cthulhu no less).
- Although he is a violent, rage-driven, and brutal extremist, this doesn't hinder his admirability or make him morally ambiguous as his war against Hell is ultimately driven by selflessness and the need to avenge not just the deaths of his loved ones but to protect all life from the onslaught brought forth by the demons, who are shown to be not only dangerous and need to be stopped but are actually sentient lifeforms forcibly warped by Hell's presence as opposed to an actual race and thus his decision to take their lives can be considered an act of mercy killing as opposed to full-on extermination. In fact, he punched his superior while on Mars for simply asking him to fire on innocent civilians and throughout the series, he does everything he can to ensure Hell and their collaborators cannot get a foothold on Earth much less anywhere else to keep others safe. In that regard, he is responsible for saving every form of life from Hell and the Maykrs.
