The Ultimate Good of Death Note
Death Note is manga series made by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, as well as its anime adaption. This series is a unique example of a "villain protagonist vs. hero antagonist" story, with no hero in the series is as influential and admirable as the hero antagonist L Lawliet aka "L".
Plot[]
Death Note's story follows Light Yagami, a high-school student who discovers a mysterious notebook called Death Note, which is dropped by Shinigami Ryuk and grants its user the ability to kill any person by writing their name on it. Having obtained the powerful notebook, Light decides to use it to kill every criminal he sees on news and media, in order to create a crime-free world and be worshipped by people as a god aliased "Kira". Light's acts of mass murdering draws attention from police, an enigmatic detective L starts to investigate the case and tries to catch Kira. Being an obstruct to Light's plan of becoming god, Light and L starts a battle of wits to defeat each other.
Close Contenders[]
Watari[]

Watari is a famous inventor and founder of Wammy's House, an orphanage for talented children in Winchester, England. He is also L Lawliet's paternal figure as well as his right-hand. By founding the Wammy's House, Watari contributes to raising many talented children with talent into skilled detectives, including L himself.
Despite being the reason why L and other children becoming the great detectives in the first place, L solved more cases independently on himself rather than relying on Watari, and most of the time Watari just acts as L's right-hand and aids his plan.
Soichiro Yagami[]

Soichiro Yagami is the chief of NPA and serves as one of the leaders of Japanese Task Froce. Soichiro Yagami stands out as the most selfless and incorruptible hero in the series, being the most devout member to solve the Kira case, and having multiple admirable acts on himself without L's order. His noble personality inspired other heroes like Matsuda and Aizawa to follow him to dedicate to Kira case.
Despite meeting the criteria of the most noble, Soichiro doesn't have the large amount of influence and resources as L has.
Near[]

Near is one of the successors of L alongside Mello, as well as the leader of the Special Provision for Kira. Near stands out as being the one directly solved Kira case and ended Light Yagami's killing spree. He takes the role of L after L's death and continue to solve multiple cases in the name of L.
As admirable as he is, Near is ultimately an extension of L's influence, as L is the one exposed the existence of Death Note and its multiple rules, while Near and Mello is just finishing L's job and didn't actually do anything L is not capable of doing.
