Chise Hatori (羽鳥 智世), is the titular main protagonist of the manga and anime series of The Ancient Magus' Bride. She grew up with no one with her father and little brother ran away and her mother committed suicide. She eventually sold herself, which lead her to meet her teacher and later husband, Elias Ainsworth.
She is voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki in Japanese and Dani Chambers in English.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- She is far and away the most admirable character in the series. She is able to calm down the raging chimera dragon from rampaging across London, easing Joseph's (the main antagonist of season 1) constant pain despite being impaled through her stomach, and saving Philomela from her grandmother Lizbeth's ritual sacrifice.
- She is a major influencer to many of her friends and allies, some notable ones include:
- Elias Ainsworth: She helps him in trying to understand human emotions and how they behave as well as teaching him how to properly express love.
- Ruth: She formed a contract with him so he will not have to be stuck in the past watching over the grave of his original owner Isabelle.
- Philomela Sargant: Chise's influence allowed Philomela to break free from her grandmother's cage and starts to finally make her free will.
- Lucy Webster: She is able to help Lucy in finding more truth behind the Webster family by looking into her memory.
- She is often sympathetic towards people who had suffered from their tragedy, such as Alice who had to live in the streets because of her abusive father, Philomela, who had suffered from the constant abuse of her grandmother, and even Joseph, who had physical agony from his immortality curse.
- While she used to have a frail body due to being born as a Sleigh Beggy, she becomes much stronger after gaining the Dragon's Curse and Joseph's Immortality. She is able slash through a malicious Nuckalavee, choke Fabio's familiar, and able to lift two fully grown adults with relative ease.
- Due to being a Sleigh Beggy, she is incredibly skilled in magic as she can solve magic puzzle without much effort.
- While she is very easily to lose her consciousness whenever she used too much of her magic, she eventually become much more durable after gaining the Dragon's Curse. During her quest in rescuing Philomela, she is able to stand in her ground until the very end of the successful rescue.
