There is a room in the Department of Mysteries that is kept locked at all times. It contains a force that is at once more wonderful and more terrible than death, than human intelligence, than the forces of nature. It is also, perhaps, the most mysterious of the many subjects for study that reside there. It is the power held within that room that you possess in such quantities and which Voldemort has not at all.
~ Dumbledore, explaining to Harry Potter the power of true love that he holds over Voldemort.

Albus Dumbledore is the overarching protagonist of the Wizarding World franchise.

He is the world's greatest wizard to have ever existed and the previous headmaster of Hogwarts before his death. Dumbledore was greatly respected in the Wizarding World due to his powerful magical abilities, exceptional intelligence and being the one to end the first Wizarding war that was instigated by Gellert Grindelwald, all of this combined also gave him the reputation of being the sole Wizard that Lord Voldemort was scared to fight, a very impressive feat to have as Voldemort was known as the most feared and evil Dark Lord of his time.

In the Harry Potter films, he was portrayed by the late Richard Harris in The Sorcerer's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, whilst the late Michael Gambon portrayed him in the remaining films after Harris' death. In the Fantastic Beasts films, he was portrayed by Jude Law.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • He is the most influential hero in the series as not only was he responsible for ending the first Wizarding War in the Fantastic Beasts prequel series, he mentored countless wizards and witches throughout his decades of being headmaster at Hogwarts, who would then work with him when he formed the Order of the Phoenix to fight against Voldemort's Death Eater army who wanted to take over the world. His influence also continued throughout the entirety of Harry Potter's life as he continuously protected Harry from Voldemort's repeated attempts to kill him, helped mold Harry into fulfilling his destiny as the chosen one by teaching him about concepts such as accepting his mortality, the fact that evil can never be permanently stopped and not letting hubris turn him into a reckless hero that would get himself killed, convinced Harry to reform the Order of the Phoenix, and he was the one who told Harry about the Horcruxes and gave Snape the idea to kill him in order to solidify his rank in Voldemort's army so they could both ultimately defeat Voldemort, giving him major influence over the Deathly Hallows storyline.
  • He is easily one of the most powerful characters as he knew many spells, was the headmaster and leader of Hogwarts for decades, was known as the greatest wizard in the Wizarding World and was even called "The Greatest Sorcerer in the World" by Harry, is one of the few characters that wielded and mastered the Elder Wand, which was the most powerful wand in existence by defeating the former owner of the wand Grindelwald and he was the only person that Voldemort feared to fight due to his incredible duelling skills and magical abilities that surpassed even Voldemort's immense power.
  • He is very admirable as he ended the first Wizarding War, taught many students at Hogwarts, formed the Order of the Phoenix to fight back against Voldemort's Death Eater army, continuously protected Harry and the students of Hogwarts from threats multiple times, sacrificed himself as part of his master plan to defeat Voldemort and indirectly ended the second one by training Harry to defeat Voldemort and reforming the Order of the Phoenix. Training Harry to defeat Voldemort and allowing Snape to kill him also prevented Voldemort from committing a three way genocide against muggles, half-bloods and muggle-borns and taking over the world to turn it into a fascist dictatorship where only pure-bloods and the rich and powerful would be able to thrive, while anyone lesser would live in misery and be oppressed by Voldemort and his Death Eater allies.
  • He is exceptionally intelligent with his vast knowledge on magic, being able to know everything about the people he meets, figure things out with only the smallest of hits and he is an excellent long-term planner. Two examples being that he figured out Gilderoy Lockhart had taken the credit of other heroes after finding out about two of his friends suddenly losing their memories after meeting with Lockhart, he appointed Lockhart as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher so he could be exposed for his crimes which ended up working when Lockhart was too cowardly to go through with his goal and ended up losing his own memories. And he masterminded Voldemort's ultimate defeat by telling Harry about the Horcruxes existences, not telling Harry that he was a Horcrux so there was a small chance that Harry wouldn't need to die in order for Voldemort to be stopped if Harry truly believed he was dead, allowing Snape to kill him so he could become a trusted ally to Voldemort and training Harry to be capable of defeating Voldemort, which ended up working and it finally ended Voldemort's terror over the Wizarding World.
